About Affordable Transmission

 

 

Affordable Transmission was founded in 1996 by Mike and Chris Wilkerson in a small three bay shop in Ferguson Missouri that was formerly a car wash. Mike had worked for several years as a installer and rebuilder for a few local transmission shops and had been trained and mentored by some of the finest builders in the St. Louis area including the builder of the transmissions for BigFoot.

After years of planning, the first Affordable shop was opened and shortly gained a regular customer base of people and businesses that needed maintenance and rebuild services. Utility companies such as Laclede Gas and AmerenUE brought their fleet vehicles and trucks to us for dependable service. Regular customers from all over the St. Louis metropolitan area come in to Affordable because of the fine quality, trust and workmanship on the job.

Within a few years the shop in Ferguson became too small for operations to expand. The search for new facilities ended with the Dunn Road location in north St. Louis county. With over 14,400 square feet, Affordable will use half for an extensive warehouse and build-out facility, using the rest for lift space and offices. In 2004 we moved into the new location and soon will have the facilities ready for our expanded operations. By having a separate area for building, warehousing and installing we will be able to supply anyone with a rebuilt transmission whether by drive-up or internet/phone order. This facility should be complete in the fall of 2005 and will be the largest transmission remanufacturing operation in the St. Louis metropolitan area.

Currently, Affordable continues to serve its fleet utility customers and many others such as U-Haul and St. Louis City and County vehicles. We are always looking for new accounts and in many cases offer fleet discounts.
